Active ageing challenges and transitions from employment to retirement in Portuguese health professionals
Sociology FLUP Porto, Portugal
It is currently notorious, in Portugal, an interest on the
individuals' permanency in the labour market on the part of the State
and other political agents. Our communication focuses on the results
of a research project on the representations and practices of health
professionals (medical doctors and nurses), aged between 55 and 65,
regarding active ageing and transitions from employment to retirement.
Based on two case-studies (hospitals in the city of Porto), we will
also discuss the relations between those professionals' stances and
the organisational contexts within which they work.
